I'm reminded Bob Schooley's response to complaints about the Aladdin/Hercules crossover, Hercules and the Arabian Night...

Actually, they both take place at the same time -- the time of myth and legend... and cartoons.

I probably complain more than anyone about blatantly anachronistic stuff in fanfics like Al and Jas using cellphones or driving cars or naming their daughter Cheyenne, but IMO there's a world of difference between that and crossing over one fairytale with another fairytale. They're both so vague about the time and place that they're set that it's not too huge of a stretch. And of course the canon did it too: not only HataN, but Captain al-Butros's ship and clothing looked an awful lot like those in TLM.

...and even if that wasn't the case, there's a way to say it without being rude to the newbie.

Manday - Sorry, I've kind of ignored your post entirely while responding to others. Laughing I'll have to respond again after I've had a chance to read the whole thing. Welcome, by the way!

I don't believe she was asking you to be her beta, though.

-Prince Eric is not Italian. If anything, he's Scandinavian, his specific country undefined. ("Eric" is a Scandinavian name, and Hans Christian Anderson was Danish.)
-Agrabah is not a port city.
-Aladdin and The Little Mermaid are not set in a concurrent time. Aladdin is mainly medieval; The Little Mermaid is set in the early modern era.
-Where in The Little Mermaid does it state that Eric has to be engaged before his nineteenth birthday?
-I just don't see Eric sharing Jasmine's miseries about being locked up and having no freedoms. This does not fit with his character in the movie.

I thought the Jasmine fans here might appreciate this, the Aladdin fans might not like it as much though... Laughing Well...a friend and I are members of this rp, where a bunch of characters from different Disney worlds and universes come together to fight the forces of evil. And the two characters of Prince Eric (TLM) and Jasmine became friends, because they share the similiar life stories of not being free to make their own choices. Both yearn for their own freedom, and are desperately searching for that one person to spend the rest of their life together, even if everyone else thinks that dream person is non-existant. We decided that it would be fun to write an AU (alternate universe) fic where Aladdin and Ariel didn't exist, and Eric and Jasmine meet in Agrabah...

And that's where this story came from. Very Happy

There's more on the way, I promise. We've written out almost half the story already, we're just beta-ing and whatnot to make sure all the ends meet. ENJOY! Smile
