Heh, I think I might have added that "citation needed". Laughing

I like wikipedia as much as anyone, but remember anyone can edit it. You have to take it with a grain of salt, especially when there's no source.

I still say that if they were planned to be related at some point then that would have been a pretty big thing for Bob Schooley to have left out of his email to the UMS, when he shared all that other Mozenrath trivia.

I really have no idea. I guess it really doesn't matter. But it is a pretty cool idea to toy with.

I'm sure if it was real, it was an early pre-production idea. I'm also fairly sure it was thrown out pretty early as well.

According to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozenrath :

"The first idea for the Aladdin and the King of Thieves story line involved Mozenrath. The plot was that the hero and villain would turn out to be brothers. However (according to one of the writers) everyone thought they should steer away from the TV show. That and the fact that they couldn't get in touch with Jonathan Brandis prompted them to move on to another relative of Aladdin's - his father"

Then again, it did say that a citation was needed...

I'm sure the "Aladdin's brother" rumor was put into play at first. Plots get played around with, and with Mozenrath being the anti-hero, they designed him to look a lot like Aladdin, and yet completely opposite of him. (Does that make sense? Bah, who cares.) I think the idea is interesting, personally, and I've been playing with it in writing and such, but I prefer Cassim's character to being introduced in the movie.

If they had used Mozenrath, it wouldn't have surprised me - the movie ended the series basically. Jonathan Brandis just wasn't on board. They couldn't get in contact with him. Robin Williams almost wasn't on board because they pretty much screwed him with the first film - hence the reason KoT says "STARRING ROBIN WILLIAMS" in nice capital letters.

What character in KOT?

There's Uncouthma, Brawnhilda, Bud, Mamoud, Wazir, Sadira, and Murk. I also see two of the party guests from "When Chaos Comes Calling", but that might not be intentional.

But that makes the series more special, isn't that? with it's own characters.
What character in KOT? a silly thing about KOT is that they aren't merried yet,I consider the end of Aladdin their wedding.

I don't know; the series was made by the same group of people as both of the sequels, and the series was pretty popular at the time, and Mozenrath was definitely the most popular villain. In retrospect, though, it worked out better this way, since they ended up getting Robin back and could use that as a selling point instead of Moze. Also, a lot fewer people are aware of the series now, so people who didn't watch the series when it was out won't be confused about who the villain is. Laughing

(There were actually a few series characters in KoT: they're standing in the background at the wedding at the end of the movie. Wink )

Just dug out that ad I was talking about, and it said KoT was coming out in the fall of 2005. There was a short plot summary on it and the plot sounds exactly the same as how it eventually turned out.

Sa'luk's not on it and he's not mentioned in the summary, but in my opinion Mozenrath was probably not the villain at that point and if he was he wasn't Al's brother. The summary mentions Al finding his long-lost father, so wouldn't it mention his long-lost brother as well if that were the case? And if he didn't have that reason to be in the plot, then how would they shoehorn him into the story? Mozenrath doesn't seem to care about gold; he wouldn't care about the Hand of Midas.

I'm guessing what Robert meant by "Mozenrath was going to be in KoT" was "Mozenrath was going to be in the third movie". And if it was still KoT, it was a very different plot than what we have now. If Mozenrath was Al's brother, they threw that plot out long before Robin signed up.

(Just remembered that I have part of the cover of that ad scanned and uploaded to the site, and looking at it now the Vanishing Isle looks more like it's in the desert than in the ocean. Maybe it was originally going to be a Vanishing City instead?)

Mozenrath (Mozenrat XDDD) in KOT? I"m really glad he's not there, seems unnecessary to put characters from the series there.

I really, really wish I knew where that rumor keeps coming from. I can only speculate that people keep misreading this article:

http://web.archive.org/web/19991010030415/http://volatile.simplenet.com/UMS/bobsh.htm

They considered putting Mozenrath in KoT, but that doesn't mean that he's Aladdin's brother. We don't even know what the plot was like back then; it might have had nothing to do with Aladdin's family.

(BTW, I think Moze was out of the movie long before Robin came on board. I have an insert from a video tape advertising KoT with the original, much earlier release date, and judging from the art the plot was the same. Cassim was on it, Mozenrath was nowhere to be seen. (I don't remember if Sa'luk was on it, though. I need to go find it again...)
